Andrea Mwaka (ca. 1865-1935)

In his youth he was a slave and had later come under the influence of the CMS-missionary Henry Cole working at Kisolwe. He was one of the first two Africans to be ordained in 1921. The greater part of his life he spent in the Mpwapwa District but later he worked at Kongwa, Buigiri and Dodoma. It is recorded that he “lived a consistent Christian life from the time of his baptism in the early eighties, and his influence in the Christian Church in Tanganyika has been an immense power for good”. He died on Sept 1, 1935.
